What have you felt nostalgic for recently?

Remembering a time when I jumped in the ocean regularly in a wild abandonment that never questioned if the water was cold. Also in streams and lakes. One very fond memory is of swimming in a Yosemite High Country Lake in the freshly melted snow. Water fresh enough to drink and swim in at the same time.

…and never fearing the Great White Shark!  I remember my fear washing away as I first entered the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  Fresh from Newfoundland, Canada, I thought more than 5 minutes in oceanic water would kill you.  I am still in love with the Gulf to this day.  Another memory, Green Hair!

Hey Sandi, I ain't what I used to be. Today I am braving the water in a wetsuit. It's a start!

You Weenie!  I'm not going till late Sept. or maybe Oct., if I can wrangle off again.  That way the water's guaranteed a soothing 85 degrees!

The wild abandonment!  You rock!  I tried to jump in Lake Superior this summer, I really did.  Chickened out at the last moment.  But also remembering days when I ran scrambling into the icy depths without thinking…

The swim was great, it is the closest I have come to the dolphins so far.
I added a photo were I encountered them. I glided along with them for a bit. I wasn't close enough to touch them or see their faces.

Oh, wow! I'm so happy for you, I know you've wanted to forever, did you see their forms keeping up with you?  I mean, they didn't race off and leave you.  How exciting, worth jumping into cold water anytime.  Of course, I would have shattered on impact.  Another dream come true, you'll have to make a longer list.

The time I moved along with them was very brief. I wish I could swim like them. I am looking forward to getting closer. They swim frequently among the surfers here. I am going to get a paddle board or something so I can swim farther out without worrying about getting pulled out so much.

Many years ago my sister and I were in Norway (didn't speak a word of their language).  We were sitting in a sauna – naked as jaybirds – with several other women, when all of a sudden they all shot out the door at a dead run, ran down a “dock” and jumped into the fjord (translation = freezing ass cold!).  We figured the sauna was on fire (or something equally bad) and bolted right after them; jumping into the water just like they did.  I actually thought I was going to have a heart attack from the shock of it.  Straight from a steaming hot sauna to iceberg water.  And they were all smiling their silly heads off.  Quite normal for them; quite literally heart-stopping for us.

Next time I better see blood, flood or fire before I jump into a fjord (or any other freezing body of water).

Ooww!! Ooowww!!!  Dr. Pepper spraying through my nose!!  Why didn't I see that coming!?!  I have heard of and even viewed this extreme behavior on movies and t.v. but I don't think I know anyone who actually did it.  I believe I could walk on water if I had to, I wasn't joking when I said I'd physically shatter like glass.  Was there any comfort in climbing out of the ice water to stand shocked and nekkid  before the Norwegians?  Apparently, since this is normal for them, maybe they thought you might be over-reacting just a little.  What could you do (?), I would be paralyzed and in need immediate medical attention.  Well, I've cried my mascara off and my sinuses are burning like the Devil, good job, Laurie!

Sandi - I am so glad to have finally returned the favor!

But let me tell you truthfully, this one experience is The Single Granddaddy Pisser of a Lifetime!  We didn't even have the space to see our lives pass before our eyes (as they so often say happens).  My sister and I are both excellent swimmers and I thought we would both drown from the sheer s-h-o-c-k of it.  It was heart-stopping cold.  There was no 'heart pounding' about it.  I'm fairly confident that our hearts were frozen in our naked little (emphasis on little) chests.  And these women – Good God Almighty!  They probably treat childbirth like we treat hang nails – they took it all right in their friggin' stride!
